Private Varadero Day Trip Itinerary
Matanzas City, Saturno Caves, or Bellamar Cave
Having left Havana, you can decide to visit coastal Matanzas, Saturno Cave, or Bellamar Cave. Matanzas is a hub of Afro-Cuban culture in the country, but is also a thriving city alive with history. Picturesque streets lead to beguiling squares such as Plaza de la Vigia, and to the famous Teatro Sauto, one of Cuba’s most important architectural wonders. Alternatively, you can delve into the cenote – or sinkhole – called Saturno Cave. Its naturally-forming pools shine with the most stunning of blues, and make for a unique swimming experience. The final option is to explore one of Cuba’s largest cave complexes. Situated more than 40 meters below ground, Bellamar Cave is an incredible three-quarters of a kilometer in length and strewn with stalactites, stalagmites and other natural formations of rock formed over thousands of years.
Varadero Township and Markets
Before you hit the beaches, your guide with escort you around Varadero township, taking in some of its markets along the way. These markets are a great place to find some authentic Cuban souvenirs to return home with, whether you fancy getting hold of some traditional foods, wooden souvenirs, or clothing such as summer dresses and straw hats. Their stalls are also a lovely way to interact with locals as you barter for the best price, though starting prices are generally well marked. Should you wish, you’ll also have time to visit some of Varadero’s other significant sights. As well as boasting some impressive mansions-turned-museums (reputedly owned by the likes of gangster Al Capone in the past), Parque Josone is also worth exploring. Created in the 1940s, here paths wind through flower beds towards a small rowing lake.
Varadero Beach
For many, the light-colored sands that make Varadero a picture postcard Cuba destination is exactly why people opt for one of our Varadero day trip. The peninsula has more than 20 km of idyllic, and clean, sands. To one side you’ll find high shade-giving palms, while on the other you’ll find the spectacularly tempting azure blue of the Atlantic that is awash with those trying out the many water sports available. In 2019, Varadero was named the second best beach in the world by Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Awards.
