About our Market Visit and Casa Particular Havana Cooking Class

A great insight into everyday life in Havana, as well as a way of widening your culinary knowledge, our market visit and Havana cooking class is led by an English-speaking home chef, and takes place in the relaxed surrounds of a casa particular rooftop with wonderful views across the capital. Before you begin the cooking itself, you’ll be taken to an agro-mercado, or farmers’ market, to pick the locally-grown produce you’ll need later on. Over the following few hours you’ll be shown how to create authentic Cuban dishes, as well as the secrets to mixing the perfect mojito. You’re then able to settle down to enjoy the three courses you’ve produced while gazing over the Havana rooftops and sipping a couple of drinks too.

Market Visit and Casa Particular Havana Cooking Class Itinerary

Visit to a local market

Your Havana cooking class itinerary begins with a visit to a local marketplace. Escorted by your English-speaking chef, your visit provides the opportunity to get an insight into everyday life in Havana, and examine the range of foodstuffs on offer, in addition to sourcing the local ingredients you’ll need for the rest of the morning. While walking through the market, or agro-mercado, you should feel free to ask your chef anything that comes to mind about Cuban life and Cuban cuisine.

Casa Particular cooking demonstration and instruction

The chef will then guide you back to a casa particular, one of Cuba’s particular forms of private bed and breakfast accommodation. From a specially-prepared space on the casa’s rooftop your Havana cooking class will begin in earnest. Your chef will lead you through the creation of authentic Cuban culinary classics through demonstration and instruction. But don’t worry if you think this is going to be like returning to school, the emphasis throughout is on having fun! By the end of the cooking you’ll have a three-course Cuban lunch to enjoy from the majestic rooftop setting.

Casa Particular Mojito-making lesson

Our Private Havana Delight Tour concludes in style. We’ll take you to one of our favorite venues in Havana to be whisked up to the rooftop for a lesson in how to make the perfect mojito cocktail (or non-alcoholic alternative should you prefer). As day turns towards evening this magical city will light up beneath you, and we wouldn’t blame you if you choose to spend the rest of the night here!

Rooftop Lunch

Now is the time when all you’ve learned during the morning is put to the test – the taste test. Remaining among the very special vistas possible from your rooftop casa location, you now have the chance to truly explore the flavors that make Cuban cuisine special, dining on the three courses you have prepared over the morning. Two drinks are also included as part of your market visit and Havana cooking class.
