Private Vinales Day Trip Itinerary

Los Jasmines Look Out

On your journey from Havana you’ll stop off at the Los Jasmines look out point, from where you’ll be able to admire Vinales and much of the province of Pinar del Rio in all of its glory, taking in the multitude of greens and the bare sheer sides of the region’s unique limestone mogote hill-like formations that erupt out of the plains.

Guided walk of Vinales and the surrounding farmland

As you walk through the streets of Vinales’ colonial heart you’ll soon discover the magic of the township for yourself – a destination known for its friendly locals, relaxed atmosphere, and joyful music and dance scene. Heading out into the surrounding fields, you’ll encounter Cuba at its most rural and authentic, with farm labourers driving oxen-pulled carts through the plantations of manioc, banana, sweet potato, pineapple and mango.

Lunch at an organic farm

Your lunch and a drink are included as part of your private Vinales day trip. Given the quality of the produce grown locally in and around Vinales we’re proud to take you to the El Paraiso organic farm. Combining brilliant views of the surroundings with incredible foodstuffs, you’ll be charmed by Wilfredo and his daughters, who own and run this farm in the Valley of Silence.

Visit a tobacco plantation and drying house

From the fields where the enigmatic tobacco plants are grown you’ll be guided into a secadero – or drying house – where the wide leaves are brought to dry once they have been harvested. This marks just the first steps in a complicated process that results in the world-renowned cigars you’ll find being rolled in the factories of Havana, sold in its stores, and still banned in the United States as a result of Castro’s revolution and the trade embargo that followed!

Mural de la Prehistoria

Occupying a stretch of limestone on Mogote Pita some 120 meters in length, the mighty Mural de la Prehistoria may lead to mixed reactions but it is certainly impressive. Daubed in bright red, blue, and yellow, it incorporates a series of prehistoric animals to tell the natural history of the region. The dream of local artist Leovigildo Gonzalez Morillo, it was created at the time of the Cuban revolution, in 1961, and took a team of eighteen people four years to complete.
