You’ll meet your English-speaking guide at a location in Old Havana that is convenient to you. This might be at a Casa, hotel or at a location close to the cruise ship terminal.

With our Private Old Havana Walking Tour you can forget having your head buried in a guidebook to the capital and actually visualise it fully. Your local English-speaking guide will bring the city and its history to life in a sweeping celebration of its vivacity. You cannot say you have experienced Havana without hearing the revving engines of its classic American cars, smelling the cigar smoke, tasting the local cuisine, seeing its architectural wonders or walking its cobbled centuries old streets, which is exactly what our Private Old Havana Walking Tour aims to help you do.

  • You’ll have the undivided attention of a private English-speaking Cuban guide who will tell you all about their city and answer all your questions with knowledge and enthusiasm
  • Learn more about Cuba’s proudly displayed revolutionary history
  • Discover life at street level with the sights, sounds and smells of the capital
  • Have your camera at the ready, you’ll want to snap plenty of photographs of Havana’s grand colonial buildings
  • Explore the major squares of Old Havana, perhaps the most significant and informative public spaces in the capital
  • Go at your own pace, with plenty of time to stop and admire the different architectural styles you will encounter on the tour

Our Private Old Havana Walking Tour is specifically designed to ensure the local people gain as much from the tour as you do. All our tours will:

  • Patronize privately owned small and family-run businesses
  • Connect you to local Cubans wherever possible through the itinerary
  • Eat at locally-owned paladares restaurants when meals are included
  • Enable you to interact with Cubans from all walks of life and hear their stories first hand
  • Educate through cultural immersion

Setting off at a relaxed pace, and with plenty of opportunities to stop and snap that photograph that will have everyone back home jealous, your guide will begin to tell you all about this beautiful city. You’ll pass the El Capitolio building, similar to the Capitol building in Washington DC, and the seat of government before Fidel Castro’s communist revolution. Until the 1950s it was the tallest building in Havana and now houses the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

You’ll pass El Floridita, the fish restaurant and cocktail bar that was the haunt of the Nobel Prize winning American author Ernest Hemingway for many years while he lived just outside Havana, the extraordinarily ornate exterior of the Gran Teatro de La Habana (home of the Cuban National Ballet), and the Museo de la Revolucion, housed in the pre-revolutionary presidential palace.

Your guide will also point out the art deco stylings of the former Bacardi building and take you past the heavenly Parque Central Square, Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts, and Calle Obispo – a street renowned as a place to enjoy a drink as the sun goes down, and one of the many places on the tour you might consider returning to at another time during your stay in the capital.

Before the tour ends you will also be shown the capital’s fantastic squares, since they are important public spaces utilised to the maximum by residents of the capital. You’ll get to see Plaza San Francisco de Asis, Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de Armas, and Plaza Vieja.

As the tour ends your guide can provide you with further ideas for excursions and activities, or options for a meal should you be hungry. With a new or renewed taste for Cuba’s amazing capital and its people you’ll probably wonder why it took you so long to visit in the first place!
